The real pearl of the area is certainly the Hermitage of Saint Rosalia alla Quisquina, set in a beautiful centuries-old wood oaks, a destination for pilgrims and visitors. The city center and the surrounding area is full of other architectural and naturalistic monuments: the Mother Church, the municipal villa, the monumental Fountain in Piazza Castello and the small church of San Calogero on the homonym mountain. Definitely worth a visit the Andromeda theater, a structure created by a pastor artist named Lorenzo Reina. Built on a hill that overlooking the city of Santo Stefano, from where you can also enjoy a magnificent view, it consists of a circular stage and some seats built with stone blocks that reproduce the position and the number of the stars of Andromeda's constellation . It is a magical place where you can perceive, at certain times of the year, a strong energy that comes from other construction details also. On the summer solstice, the shadow cast by a disk, placed behind the stage, generates a dark circle that coincides with a circular black space placed in the center of the stage. In the same way, at sunset, from the mouth of a large monolithic sculpture depicting a chest, a ray of sunlight filters creating fascinating effects of lights and shadows. The theater is achieving resounding success and was presented at the 16th edition of the International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. It is the highest stone theater in the world, located on a hill at about 900 meters above sea level.
The Magna Via Francigena that crosses our territory is a path that connects Palermo to Agrigento, from north to south, from sea to sea for 180 kilometers. Always in Sicily one of the most important lines of movement for men, animals and things. It has made it possible since the Archaic age to connect the coasts of the Mediterranean to those of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
